Detecting and Repairing Water Leaks

Click image for a YouTube video.

High Potential For Leaks

Leaking toilet tanks are the number one source of wasted water. A typical leaky toilet wastes  300 gallons or more per month.

How Can I Find Out?

To detect a slow leak put food coloring in the toilet tank and wait 15 minutes without flushing.   If the water bowl  turns color, your toilet  tank is leaking.

Fix It Myself Or Call Someone

Repair  kits are inexpensive and are available at most home improvement stores. Repairing a toilet leak can save a lot of water and money. It is recommended that you perform this test at least twice a year.

Other Sources Of Leaks

Check all faucets and garden hoses for drips. A slow leak can amount to 450 gallons per month. Steady drip to a slow stream can amount from 750 gallons to 3,000 gallons per month.
